Tuesday, July 1& Wednesday, 2: Gargoyles
Sculptures

We will be constructing gargoyle sculptures. Gargoyles are the subject matter-you decide on the style & how eery! Add a little flair to your room with your very own Gothic creature of papier mache! 1-2:30, Cost $20

Saturday, July 5: Tie-Dye
Bring in a t-shirt, or some kind of fabric to be tied and dyed. Or purchase an Art Village T-shirt here at the shop. 1-2:30, Cost $10

Tuesday, July 8: Vincent Van Gogh’s Flowers
Working in the style of Van Gogh, we will explore his painterly techniques with vibrant color expression. Each individual will choose a painting they respond to and emulate their rendition with the use of paint and collage. Create your masterpiece!

Fear No watercolor
Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22, 29

Instructor: Ann Singsaas
Learn about the materials and basic techniques that are the foundation of watercolor painting. This class is meant for those with no experience in the medium or artist who find watercolor frustrating and confusing. Lots of time for demonstrations and Q&A.

Wednesday, July 9: Aztec Soap Carving
Aztecs carved wonderful creatures and events in stone. We will be exploring their style of creating art using soap as our medium. Make your own sculpture inspired by the way Aztecs documented their lives. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Thursday, July 10: 3-D Cubist Faces
Artists Braque and Picasso introduced us to the wonderful world of Cubism. Through construction, we will create 3-D Cubist faces inspired. Develop an original and unique face in a non-traditional way. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Friday, July 11: Relief Sculpture Carving
We will explore Egyptian Hieroglyphics, using pictures to illustrate our thoughts instead of using words. We will investigate the highs and lows of sculpting to create an exclusive carving unique to your life. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Tuesday, July 15: Rainsticks Workshop
Enjoy the soothing sounds of a rainstick created by your hands. Use it to call the rainy weather to come your way, or to relax. These are wonderful instruments unique to the items we place in and on them. Join us in the fun! 1-2:30, Cost $15

Wednesdays, July 16 & 22: Clay Teapots
Care for a spot of tea? Make your very own teapot! We will explore the elements that make up an original ceramic teapot! Let your artistic side whistle out! 1-2:30, Cost $20

Thursday, July 17: Mono-printing
Try this personal expression of print making. Each print is unique and different from the next, a one original hand painted and printed piece of artwork. We will explore layering of paints to create depth and feeling within our prints. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Friday, July 18: Mixed Media Painting
Life is full of accidents, we will explore placing paint onto paper and layering with different media. Be prepared to find the artist within; through the help of all materials of ink, charcoal, paint: we will create a wild and one-of-a-kind masterpiece. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Tuesday, July 22 & Wednesday 23: Pinatas
Everyone loves a party! Create your very own pinata for your next get together. You’re only limited by your imagination. Turn your favorite cartoon character, friend, family member, pet into a work of pinata art. 1-2:30, Cost $20

Thursday, July 24: Seurat: Pointillism Painting
Discover the fun of small dots! We will be taking pictures and using small amounts of color to create a detailed image and reconstruction of Pointillism, a style of painting used by artist Seurat. 1-2:30, Cost $15

Friday, July 25: Fabric Assemblage
Excellent art is not just made from paints. We will explore fabric as a medium to create vibrant art to both the eye and touch. Feel free to bring in fabric you have to add to your creation. 1-2:30, Cost $15

July Tuesday, 29 & Wednesday, 30: Pet Monsters
Create your own pet monster-no feeding necessary! We will assemble our unique outer space creatures: be inspired by movies, dreams... do not limit yourself. Bring in pictures of your favorite characters and we will create them in 3-D! 1-2:30, Cost $20

Thursdays, July 31 & August 7: Clay Masks
Masks are not just for Halloween! We will be creating our clay masks. Whether they be real or imaginary; it’s always fun to play with clay! 1-2:30, Cost $20

August

August 1: Blotto Fun Painting Workshop.
Explore your inner-self. Allow yourself to be unpredictable and allow whatever happens to happen. We will explore the possibility of accidents in art and how they are positive events. Just as no two snowflakes are the same neither will these prints. 1-2:30, Cost $15

August 2: Raku
11-2 pm, $30 includes glazing with Raku glazes and firing of one piece. You may bring in your own pottery or purchase bisque here at Art Village. An addition $5 per piece if you are firing more than one. Raku is not food safe.

Bring a piece of fired bisque as we go through the unique process of Raku firing. Pottery is removed from the kiln during the firing when it is red hot. Quickly, each piece is set in a garbage can full of combustible materials which immediately catch fire. Then the garbage can is closed with a tight fitting lid, so the pottery can smoke for 10-15 minutes. Next the pottery is cooled quickly in a bucket of water. The colors that result are amazing.
NOTE: Raku firing is very cool but unpredictable. Some breakage can occur.

August 5 & 6: Crazy Creature Sculpture.
Dive into the deep depths and tunnels of your imagination, what crazy wild & unpredictable creatures live there? Bring these crazy whimsical to life through papier mache! 1-2:30, Cost $20

August 8: Cezanne Still Life Workshop.
We will investigate Cezanne’s method of capturing his lovely still life paintings. Through looking at his work, and using similar processes; we will reproduce our own still life masterwork. 1-2:30, Cost $15

August 9: Memory Boxes.
Capture your life, document it! We will be exploring ourselves and creating boxes unique to our lifestyles and experiences. We will collage, draw, paint, print to create our individual boxes. Feel free to bring your own images to use. 1-2:30, Cost $35

August 12: Salt Water Pictures.
We will be exploring the options to watercolor. We will make a unique series of pictures. There are no mistakes in this workshop; it all ends in a beautiful piece of artwork. 1-2:30, Cost $15

August 13: 3-D Texture Painting.
Learn the fun of impasto and create a 3-D painting using collage and paint; we will be working in a contemporary way. We will be exploring the works of Old Masters along with a Contemporary Style of creating new vibrant artwork. 1-2:30, Cost $15

August 14: Mock Stained Glass Masterpiece.
We will be using a very simplified way of creating a unique mock stained glass piece. No intimidating tools to be afraid of, just bring yourself and your creativity for this unique class.
1-2:30, Cost $15

August 15 & 22: Ocarinas & Whistles.
Let your heart sing out by creating your own Ocarina whistle. As used in ancient civilizations, we too, will be using clay to make our musical instrument! 1-2:30, Cost $20

August 19 & 20: Animal Masks.
Bring out the animal from within! Through the joy of papier mache, we will be creating a unique mask of your favorite wild beast! 1-2:30, Cost $20

August 21: Mondrian Painting.
Exploring the artist Mondrian, we will be working with geometric shapes and simplified colors to create a painting. We will look at life through eyes that see the simplest of shapes. 1-2:30, Cost $15

August 22 & 29: Dough Sculptures.
Using a unique medium, we will create sculptures of dough. We will sculpt the first day and paint them the second day. Art meets cooking class, fun will be had by creating 3-D sculptures. 1-2:30, Cost $20

August 26 & 27: African Drum Workshop.
March to your own beat on your handcrafted African Drum. We will be constructing this fabulous instrument as a collage. Join us for this stimulating workshop of music! 1-2:30, Cost $30

August 28: Linoleum Block Printing.
We’ll use an assemblage of materials to print with, along with using linoleum to create our own blocks. Design your very own stamp and create a masterpiece print to share! 1-2:30, Cost $15
